About My Boat Works

Welcome aboard! I'm Captain Jerr Dunlap. I am actively upgrading my license and that is an ongoing process. Please feel free to ask any questions - I'm happy to pass on knowledge I've received from cherished old salts.

When faced with a career change in 2005, a close sailing friend told me my woodworking has rare beauty, that I know as much about sailing and working on boats as anyone and that with my deep love of boats... I started My Boat Works.

I have a U.S. Coast Guard commercial (50 ton) license with sail and towing endorsements, allowing me to operate both commercial and pleasure boats, either power or sail. I am available for most work, either commercial or private and am willing to travel on short notice.

I give solid, knowledgeable work and thoughtful, forthright support. Seeing customers' appreciation of my finished work is one of my daily joys: Wouldn't you rather hire someone who has had pies baked from scratch in appreciation of their work?

I am a woodworker, rigger, small boat electrician and fundamentally a sailor. I treat projects as if they were on one of my boats (I have a coastal cruiser and a racing dinghy.) and take pride in my work's solid functionality and beauty.

I am available for large and small projects (Excellent CAD where needed!) and will gladly travel or ship completed parts. I live in Los Angeles and commonly work in most Southern Californian harbors.
